Eating out
Restaurants for a food allergy
SafePlate is a way to look for restaurants, cafes and pubs when you are eating out with a food allergy. Search a city, or search a park. You tell it the foods to avoid, including peanuts, tree nuts, gluten, milk and the other foods on your list.
Places come from OpenStreetMap. An allergy score stays unknown until a menu or a visitor note is on file. In the UK, a Food Standards Agency hygiene rating can show on a listing. A hygiene rating is not an allergy score.
What you can search
A normal search is restaurants, cafes and pubs. If you search a theme park, a resort, a stadium or a festival site, the list also includes quick-service counters, because that is where a lot of people actually eat.
People use it for a peanut allergy restaurant near a hotel, a gluten-free or coeliac meal in a new city, a milk allergy or dairy-free counter, and a nut allergy at a park. The same profile works in London, Paris, or somewhere you have not been before.
Search and the map are free. SafePlate Plus adds a menu checker, a chef card in six languages, and profiles for the other people at the table. Plus is £4.99 a month on this website.
London
Restaurants, cafes and pubs across London. In the UK, a Food Standards Agency hygiene rating can appear next to a place. That rating is about hygiene, not allergens.

Questions people ask
How do I find restaurants for a food allergy?
Set the foods you need kitchens to avoid, then search a city, a neighbourhood, or a park. SafePlate lists restaurants, cafes and pubs from OpenStreetMap. A park or resort search also includes quick-service counters.
Can I search for a peanut allergy or a nut allergy?
Yes. Add peanuts, tree nuts, or both, to your profile. A place stays unknown until a menu or a visitor note mentions that food. A cuisine clue is a pattern, not a reading of that kitchen’s menu.
Does this help with gluten-free and coeliac eating out?
Add gluten to the foods you avoid. SafePlate can then compare places against that profile. It does not certify a kitchen as gluten-free or coeliac-safe. Confirm the meal with the venue.
What about a milk allergy or dairy-free food?
Add milk, and lactose if that is the issue. The menu checker on SafePlate Plus looks for hidden sources such as butter, cheese, yoghurt and some sauces. Search itself stays free.
Is a high score a promise the meal is safe?
No. SafePlate is guidance for eating out. It is not medical advice and it does not decide that a kitchen is allergen-free. Always tell the venue and confirm with the kitchen.
